Phthalate Test and Its Importance in Shoes
WHAT IS PHTHALATE?
The diesters made by phthalic acid with monohydric alcohols are called phthalates. This substance is often used to increase the flexibility of plastics. Phthalates; It is used not only in shoes, but also in vinyl and plastic containers, food packaging, household items, and many body care products such as soap and lotion. The most known phthalate is; DEHP (2ethylhexyl).
THE IMPORTANCE OF THESE TESTS
Phthalate has been recognized by the International Agency For Research on Cancer that Phthalate causes cancer in humans. Cancer, which is one of the most common diseases today, is enough to emphasize the importance of these tests when it comes to risk.

PHTALATE REGULATIONS IN TURKEY
Notification about the issue in 2012, and inspections made in Turkey was launched.
The Ministry of Economy issued a communiqué on the import control of consumer products for some sectors under the title of product safety and control number 2012/30 on October 4, 2012. Within the scope of this communique, inspections regarding the values of Phthalate, which is accepted as banned, have been initiated in all imported shoes. Regarding the import control of some consumer products (shoes, slippers, sandals and the like), a communiqué numbered 28431 was published in 2012 by the Ministry of Economy. The purpose of this Communiqué, on the other hand, specifies the procedures and principles for controlling the compliance of the specified products with the relevant legislation in terms of human health, safety of life and property, environment and consumer protection.
